CoinCover takes the Ledger customer through a KYC process, used to re-verify their identity when the seed phrase needs restoring.

An encrypted version of the customer’s recovery phrase is divided into three fragments on their hardware wallet.

Each encrypted fragment is securely transferred to an independent third party, one of which is CoinCover.

Two of the three fragments are required to restore access to the wallet.

Restoring access to a wallet

CoinCover carries out a KYC of the Ledger customer, reinforced by a KYC undertaken by an independent third party.

Additional checks are carried out by Ledger on their customer’s status.

If a check fails, CoinCover manually investigates the Ledger customer over a live channel to verify their identity.

When the checks are passed, two of the three fragments are released back to the Ledger customer’s hardware wallet, and access is restored.
