Please be reassured that as part of our commitment to safeguarding your information, we proactively monitor for fraudulent activities and work to identify and stop fraudsters before they can cause harm.
What to do when fraudsters contact you
If someone does contact you asking for personal information, here are some tips on what to do:
- Stop communicating with them: don’t respond to messages or calls.
- Keep records: keep a copy of all messages, emails or phone calls, including the date and time received, in case you need to report the scam.
- Update your passwords: even if you didn’t give information to the caller, it’s worth changing the passwords on your online accounts and implementing two-factor authentication if you don’t already use it.
- Check your financial accounts: Look for any unusual transactions and report them to your bank, credit card company or wallet provider.
- Report the incident: not only to the company the scammer pretended to be from but to scam organisations in your country. For example, in the UK, Action Fraud and in the USA, the Federal Trade Commission.
- Keep updated on the latest scams: a quick search on Google will tell you what tricks fraudsters are using and give you a list of security websites with info about common scams and how to recognise them.
These steps will protect you and increase your chances of getting your money back if you lose any.
